Terms of use
These terms are the agreement between you and Powell Lines LLC for using Backgammon at backgammon.powellplay.com. By playing, you agree to them. They are written in plain words on purpose. Please read them.
Who we are
Backgammon is a free multiplayer backgammon game made by Powell Lines LLC, a US company, and published as a Powell Play game. "We" and "us" mean Powell Lines LLC. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data and is part of these terms.
Who can play
Backgammon is for players 13 and over. If you are under the age of adulthood where you live, a parent or guardian should agree to these terms with you.
Fair play
Backgammon is only fun when everyone plays honestly. When you play Backgammon, you agree that you will not:
- Use bots, engines, analysis software, or another person's help to choose your moves in rated online matches. Analyzing your own matches after they end is fine.
- Harass, threaten or bully other players, including by abusing quick-chat or by stalling on purpose to annoy them.
- Use a name that is abusive, hateful, sexual, impersonates someone else, or contains personal details.
- Run more than one player to boost a rating, trade wins, or lose on purpose.
- Attack, overload, reverse engineer or tamper with our servers, or try to get at other players' data.
- Use bugs to gain an advantage. If you find one, please tell us.
You can report or block any player in the game. We review reports and may rename players, reset ratings or stats, or end access for players who break these rules.
Accounts and guest play
You play as a guest with no sign-up. Your player lives on our server and your browser keeps a random token that links you to it. If you clear your browser data or change devices without a recovery code, you may lose your player, and we may not be able to bring it back. Make a recovery code in the game and keep it somewhere safe and private: anyone with your code can use your player.
You can also sign in with Powell Play, which is optional. Your Powell Play account is covered by Powell Play's own terms.
Your player, ratings, badges and Pro status have no cash value and cannot be sold or transferred.
Backgammon Pro and refunds
Backgammon is free to play. Backgammon Pro is an optional one-time purchase of $4.99, sold on the web through Stripe Checkout. It is linked to your player. Nothing is sold inside the Powell Play app.
You can ask for a full refund within 30 days of purchase by email. A refund removes Pro from your player. The details are in our refunds policy.
No gambling
Backgammon is a game of skill and chance played for fun only. There is no gambling or real-money wagering in Backgammon. You may not use Backgammon to bet money or anything of value on the result of a match, whether inside or outside the game. Ratings and badges have no cash value.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Backgammon running, but it is offered as it is and may sometimes be down, slow or changed. We may add, change or remove features, and we may end the game. If we ever shut Backgammon down, we will give notice in the game first where we can. Online matches have clocks and forfeits for leaving, explained on the support page; a lost connection on your side can cost you a match.
Ending your access
You can stop playing at any time and delete your data on the Delete your data page. We may suspend or end your access to Backgammon, or to online play, if you break these terms or put other players or the service at risk. Where it is fair to do so, we will tell you why.
Disclaimers
We provide Backgammon "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we make no promises beyond those in these terms, including any promise that Backgammon will always be available, free of errors, or fit for a particular purpose. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Limitation of liability
As far as the law allows, Powell Lines LLC is not liable for indirect or unexpected losses, such as lost data, lost ratings or lost profits, that come from using or not being able to use Backgammon. Our total liability to you for any claim about Backgammon is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $10. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer under the law where you live.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Powell Lines LLC is organized, without regard to conflict of law rules. If a dispute comes up, please email us first and we will try to sort it out. If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the effective date at the top, and if a change is significant we will let you know in the game. If you keep playing after a change, you accept the new terms.
